Chris Beales set up Afghan Action in 2005 and has been its Chief Executive until summer 2014. He is a trustee of the charity, which originally grew out of another charity he set up in 1999, Employment Focus (1999-2006). He currently works with a construction training company, Alpha Building Services engineering, and is involved in setting up the London Design & Engineering University Technical College (opening in September 2015). He is part time vicar of St Michael Woburn Sands, near Milton Keynes and oversees a new community project and social enterprise, The Print Cellar. He also has a small publishing company and has written two books. He has worked around the country mainly on faith and economy issues, as Secretary to the Church of England’s Industrial & Economic Affairs Committee (1985-91) and on secondment to the Government to set up its inter-faith work (1992-94).
